The coup was in February of 1971, a lifetime ago. 
Brian and I flew from Tel Aviv to Nairobi.  Commercial flights to Kampala were all cancelled.  So, along with a New York Times correspondent, we found a pilot with a private plane who agreed to fly us to Kampala.

When we landed, we were "greeted" by a green Jeep full of Amin's soldiers, who jumped out with their guns pointed at us.

I remember clearly the face of one of his lieutenants who put a gun to my head and wanted to know what we were doing there.  His eyes were bloodshot and his breath heavy with alcohol.

It was a scary moment but we showed him our press credentials and got an immediate escort to Amin's headquarters.  Along the way into Kampala from the airport the road was lined with smoldering armored vehicles from the fighting a day or two before.

The interview with Amin is famous only because in the middle of it Amin lets out a Category 5 belch (Which was delightedly recorded by Marty.. Ah, i we could have had that sound also captured by camera.)
