TRACS Holds Annual Showcase In Chicago—Where it All Began

By Hal McClure

It all began here in 1897.

Back to Its Roots

The Travel Adventure Cinema Society returns to century-old roots Sept. 12-14 when it showcases its travel film talent in Chicago, the home place of the legendary Burton Holmes who premiered one of the world’s first travel films there in 1897.

TRACS President Monty Brown said 23 previews of travel and adventure films will be previewed at Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art. He added:

“If you haven’t signed up for the convention, you still have time. If you have a new film to preview, we can still fit you in. There will be new Presenters viewing a variety of showcases, and have opportunities to mingle with other filmmakers and buyers in the heart of one of America’s most vibrant cultural centers.”

Absentee previews may be submitted to President  Monty Brown (315 Bennett St., Bossier City, LA 71111), or to Executive Secretary Kathie Veach (765 Beverly Park Pl., Jackson, MI 49203).

The TRACS’ hotel is the Seneca, where a kick-off Wine and Cheese Party will be held Sunday night at the society’s suite.

The Previews will be emceed by Monty and Marsha Brown at the Museum’s 300-seat theater. Filmmakers have a maximum 15-minute span to present and show their previews.

The membership also is expected to discuss the future of the Society at the annual break-out meeting.
