The sun went down for the first time in mid-August. I would leave in September, but return in November to capture some winter material, especially the caribou migration. A bit over three months of filming, and then, four months of editing. “One Arctic Summer” was a summer that has remained a vivid experience in my own memory bank.

During the production of my new film on Texas, I had wanted to include a sequence about the Big Thicket of east Texas. This area contains a rich diversity of plant and animal life in the far southeast corner of the state that has a greater variety of plants and animals than any other part of the U.S. It once covered over 3 million acres of this hardwood/pine forested area. (It was a place for draft dodgers to hide out during the Civil War.)

During the time I lived in the Houston area, I had managed to capture quite a lot of footage of an otter in one of the bayous. I had also filmed other wildlife there, including some very nice footage of pileated woodpeckers creating their nesting hole one spring. This was all footage that I wished to incorporate into my new production.

But I was producing TEXAS in the HDV format, which is a 16x9 widescreen ratio, while the animal footage had been shot on 16mm film some years earlier, and it was in the familiar 4x3 aspect ratio.

I got in touch with And Transfer, a film-to-tape transfer facility in Dallas and began a series of conversations as to the possibility of extracting a hi-def image from the standard 16 mm film. They were of the opinion that it might be a doable project. We’d just have to try.

So, I collected the 16-mm footage and made my way to their Dallas studios. We began by putting the images up on their 8-foot monitor screen in the transfer room. The plan was to use all the image possible across the width of the picture and exclude imagery from the top or bottom (or both) of the 16 mm frame to end up with a 16x9 widescreen picture.

Initial viewing on that large screen seemed to indicate that a hi-def picture of satisfactory quality could, ordering Lormetazepam online, Low dose Lormetazepam, indeed, be obtained. Perhaps it was neither—maybe the difference in visible grain was the result of the processing and the processing laboratory used. So I completed my edit, about Lormetazepam, What is Lormetazepam, with a few scenes that displayed an undesirable visible grain pattern. This was mostly in the shots of the pileated woodpeckers which had a blue sky background. I ultimately had to use a filter from TMTS (Too Much Too Soon), which I had obtained as a plug-in for Final Cut Pro. This is a ‘noise reduction’ filter and it worked very well to reduce the visible grain in about three shots where it was needed.
